MY FREE TIME AS A MEDICAL STUDENT

When you tell people ,,I study medicine" what do they think that means? Probably that you spend most of your time with your nose in the books. Oh, that large amount of informations contained in each course... Medicine is tough. Everyone knows it. But is there any chance to have your own personal life?

1. THE FREE TIME ALWAYS DEPENDS ON PERSON

Priorities. There will always be students, who never stop studying. And also those one, who do not really care about the percentage of their exam score. Having a free time or good results, what is more important? It's up to you what to choose - the only voice that matters is your own:). My advice (and this is also the thing I am trying to do) is just always trying to do your best. Avoid perfectionism. I don't really have to be Mrs. She-always-knows-everything in school, because I am studying for myself and for my future career.

2. PLANNING

Planning is absolutely essential. You need to have your schedule to know, when is your time to sit down and do your studying or when you can finally reward yourself with some free time. I think that  planning your free time is not so dramatic as it seems to be- it's just much more easier to have a routine and get use to it.

3. PRIORITIZATION

Ok, let's be realistic- you can never make as much free time as you would love to have in the medical school. But you won't have to give up your hobbies or friends! So what's the key? Prioritization, prioritization, prioritization.
I could not imagine my week without some physically activity, so that is the number one on my free time to-do list :).

4. LEARN TO SAY ,,NO"

You can not be productive if you take on too many commitments- slow down! You know your priorities and it is impossible to see all of your friends or go to all the parties you are invited to. Close friends always respect your decision and understand, that your school is sometimes overwhelming.

5. WORK HARD, PLAY HARD

Summer or winter vacation? Reward yourself, it's the right time now! I love traveling, so I went to London and Berlin in my last vacation. It gave me so much energy and motivation to start the next semester with a smile on my face:).

P.s.: My plan for the next week besides studying is to teach my students German as usual, go to the gym, go out for the dinner with my friends and go for a drink:). Quite a nice upcoming week, isn't it?:))

What do you enjoy doing in your free time and how much time do you have each week for doing these things?

Have a great day!

Bea
